The Utah State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, January 9 at the Utah State Office of Education, 250 E. 500 South, Salt Lake City. The complete agenda along with more information about agenda items can be found here. The Board meeting, though not committee meetings, will be streamed live here. Shortly after the end of the meeting a summary of major action taken by the Board will be posted here.

Highlights of this Board meeting include:

·       A review of the Board’s legislative priorities and activity prior to the opening of the 2014 Utah Legislature, which begins on Jan. 27.

·       Preliminary approval of the policy amendment on the use of electronic devices in public schools clarifying local district and charter responsibilities with both school-owned and privately-owned devices in public schools.

·       Preliminary approval of a policy amendment on school emergency response plans to require that a fire drill be substituted every other time for either a sheltering in place drill, earthquake drill, or lock down for violence drill.
