We have 1100 bills filed and were only in the second week of the session. Honestly, I only know what I've read in emails bout this issue. The deadline to open new bills for this session has already passed.

If the bill gets to the senate them I will certainly dig deeper. But as of right now, I've got my hands full with what's already on my plate.

Dear Senator Weiler,

I write to you today to respectively ask you to sponsor a bill to ban "horse tripping" this session in Utah, of which I am very proud to call home.

A Horse Tripping event was recently canceled in Box Elder County, Utah, and now it is time to finally ban it statewide.  It is a notoriously cruel rodeo activity during which a lasso is cast around the forelegs of a galloping horse, causing the animal to buckle and crash violently. Horses subjected to this abuse often sustain rope burns, abrasions, dislocations, torn tendons and ligaments, and broken legs, not able to recover.

"Horse tripping" has been outlawed in 10 states (most recently, in Oregon and Nevada), prohibited in film and TV production, and banned by the American Quarter Horse Association. Even the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will not sanction it. I also don't believe children should be attending the event, watching people treat these horses in an inhumane and cruel way..."Horse tripping" desensitizes children and does not teach them the right values or morals at a young age that they need to be learning for the rest of their lives.

As your constituent, and lover of horses, I am strongly urging you to please sponsor a ban on horse tripping in Utah so that we, as Utahans, can step into the twenty first century and no longer look like a backwards, cruel, uncompassionate state.
Thank you for your time and all that you do to help our state.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Connie Curnow
