Dear Senator, As your constituent and a supporter of statewide nondiscrimination protection amendments which include sexual orientation and gender identity, I believe lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people should never be fired from their jobs or evicted from their homes solely for being LGBT. I believe that employment and housing decisions should be based on the ability to do the job, and pay the rent. Gay and Transgender Utahns are hardworking, law abiding people, who pay their taxes. We should all have the same opportunities to earn a living, shelter our families and contribute to society. I am writing to urge you to VOTE IN FAVOR of statewide nondiscrimination protection amendments that include sexual orientation and gender identity which would prohibit discrimination in housing and employment based solely on sexual orientation and gender identity. As your constituent I am counting on you to represent me on this matter during the 2014 legislative session. • The Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce SUPPORTS Nondiscrimination protection amendments* • Major Employers across the state SUPPORT Nondiscrimination protection amendments* • 73% of Utahns SUPPORT Nondiscrimination protection amendments* • As noted in their statement to Salt Lake City in November 2009, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints SUPPORTED passage of Nondiscrimination ordinances* • I SUPPORT NONDISCRIMINATION PROTECTION amendments which include sexual orientation and gender identity Now is the time to vote YES on this important piece of legislation. 21 states and 15 of our local governments in Utah including Salt Lake City, Taylorsville, West Valley City, Logan, Ogden, Park City, Murray, Midvale, Moab, Salt Lake County, Grand County and Summit County, Alta, Harrisville and Springdale include gender identity and sexual orientation in their nondiscrimination ordinances. Large businesses in Utah see this patchwork of protections as a barrier to continued economic growth and competitive relevance within their respective industries. It’s time for Utah to regain its competitive edge. END workplace and housing DISCRIMINATION. LGBT Utahns should be protected equally by their government. “The best principles of our republic secure to all its citizens a perfect equality of rights”. -Thomas Jefferson *For complete information regarding favorable statements made by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, the state wide public opinion poll conducted by Dan Jones & Associates and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints please visit www.equalityutah.org autumn hickman 1152 N 1300 W Salt Lake City, UT 84116
