Mr. Speaker:

    The Public Utilities and Technology Committee recommends H.B. 263, REMOVAL OF DIRECTORY SUBSIDY AMENDMENTS, by Representative J. Haymond, be replaced and reports a favorable recommendation on 1st Sub. H.B. 263, REMOVAL OF DIRECTORY SUBSIDY AMENDMENTS with the following amendments:
1.    Page 4, Lines 12-31:    After "54-7-12," delete the remainder of lines 12 through 31 and insert "the commission shall initiate a proceeding to:
        (i) determine the amount which represents the ratepayers' interest in the published directories of an affiliate corporation of the incumbent telephone corporation; and
        (ii) adjust rates beginning January 1, 2000, to reflect removal of all, or part, of the amounts currently embedded in the rates after allocating to ratepayers their interest determined under Subsection (7)(a)(i);
        (b) No later than November 1, 1998, the commission shall submit a report to the Legislature's Interim Public Utilities and Technology Committee on the status of the proceeding initiated under Subsection (7)(a)."
