Senator Hull proposes the following amendments:

1.    Page 1, Line 1:    After "SOUTH" insert "STUDY"

2.    Page 1, Line 17:    After "PROVIDING FOR" delete "THE ESTABLISHMENT" and insert "A STUDY ON THE NECESSITY OF ESTABLISHING"

3.    Page 1, Line 18:    Delete "OF" at the beginning of line 18

4.    Page 1, Lines 19-24:    After "PROVIDING" delete the rest of line19 and lines 20 through 24 and insert "THAT THE STUDY ALSO CONSIDER THE NEED FOR ADDITIONAL APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CENTERS OR OTHER INSTITUTIONS TO PROVIDE APPLIED TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION SERVICES TO SECONDARY AND POSTSECONDARY STUDENTS; AND PROVIDING FOR A REPORT."

    LILAC dated 2/20/98    After "Section 1." delete the rest of line 2 and lines 3 through 27a and insert the following:

        " Applied technology education study _ Merger of the Sevier Valley Applied Technology Center with Snow College _ Report to Legislature.
        (1) Between the completion of the Legislature's 1998 General Session and the beginning of the 1999 General Session, the Joint Liaison Committee for Public and Higher Education, the Joint Liaison Applied Technology Education Advisory Committee, and invited representatives from business and industry shall conduct a study on the delivery of applied technology education services in the state to secondary and postsecondary students.
        (2) The study shall include at least the following issues:
        (a) the need for and feasibility of converting the Sevier Valley Applied Technology Center into a branch campus of Snow College or establishing a similar relationship between the two institutions that would make the technology center an integrated part of Snow College;
        (b) whether there is a need to establish additional applied technology centers or community colleges, or both, in various geographical areas of the state to better meet the applied technology education needs of secondary and postsecondary students throughout the state; and
        (c) an examination of the specific roles and missions of secondary and postsecondary applied technology providers.
        (3) The study group shall make a report of its findings, together with any proposals for legislative action, to the Legislature prior to the beginning of the 1999 General Session.
