             7      A RESOLUTION OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DESIGNATING
             8      MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY AS AN OPEN SPACE PILOT PROGRAM CITY IN UTAH
             9      TO AID, ENCOURAGE, AND PROMOTE OPEN SPACE BY DEVELOPING A MODEL
             10      ZONING ORDINANCE, RECOMMENDING APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION, EDUCATING
             11      THE PUBLIC, AND INVOLVING THE COMMUNITY.
             12      Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the state of Utah:
             13          WHEREAS, the preservation of open space is a priority in Utah cities and communities;
             14          WHEREAS, Marriott-Slaterville City is Utah's newest city which bears a unique and
             15      significant history dating back more than 150 years;
             16          WHEREAS, it is necessary to involve local government, private foundations, and the
             17      public in promoting open space preservation;
             18          WHEREAS, the Marriott Heritage Foundation is currently successfully working in the
             19      community to foster historical and open space projects such as Bingham's Fort, an early pioneer
             20      settlement; the original transcontinental railroad route through the area; and historic Native
             21      American grounds;
             22          WHEREAS, as a new city, Marriott-Slaterville is in an exceptional position to develop a
             23      zoning ordinance model using open space concepts;
             24          WHEREAS, Marriott-Slaterville City contains river bed, wet land, and natural habitat areas
             25      suitable for open space preservation, especially along the Weber River corridor; and
             26          WHEREAS, the model set by an open space pilot program city may benefit other cities,
             27      communities, and the public:


             28          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the state of
             29      Utah that Marriott-Slaterville City be designated an open space preservation city.
             30          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives encourage
             31      Marriott-Slaterville City, as a pilot program, to develop a model zoning ordinance emphasizing
             32      open space preservation.
             33          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives encourage
             34      Marriott-Slaterville City to collect information on growth management and open space from state
             35      and local government entities to aid, encourage, and promote open space concepts.
             36          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives encourage
             37      Marriott-Slaterville City to make recommendations to the Legislature regarding potential open
             38      space legislation, conduct community education, and continue to work to involve the Marriott
             39      Heritage Foundation, the public, and the community on open space projects.
             40          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah
             41      Department of Community and Economic Development and the mayor of Marriot-Slaterville City.
