             6      AN ACT RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION; PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT
             7      OF AN INSTRUCTION PROGRAM AT THE COLLEGE OF EASTERN UTAH ON HOW TO
             8      INTERPRET AND PRESERVE ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES IN THE STATE; PROVIDING A
             9      $9,900 APPROPRIATION TO HELP FUND THE PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR A REPORT;
             10      AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
             11      This act enacts uncodified material.
             12      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             13          Section 1. Instruction program on the interpretation and preservation of
             14      archeological sites.
             15          (1) The Legislature recognizes the importance of understanding and preserving that part
             16      of the state's historical heritage found in archeological sites throughout the state.
             17          (2) In order to help accomplish this, there is established at the College of Eastern Utah a
             18      program to provide archeological instruction on how to interpret and preserve archeological sites
             19      in the state.
             20          (3) For fiscal year 2000-01 only, there is appropriated from the General Fund to the
             21      College of Eastern Utah $9,900 to be used to help fund the program established under Subsection
             22      (2).
             23          (4) Curriculum developed at the college for the program may be made available, upon
             24      request and at the discretion of the college, to other institutions within the state system of higher
             25      education.
             26          (5) (a) The college shall carefully monitor the program and report its initial findings to the
             27      Legislature's Education Interim Committee by November 30, 2000.


             28          (b) The report shall include a recommendation as to whether the program should be
             29      continued, expanded, or terminated.
             30          Section 2. Effective date.
             31          This act takes effect on July 1, 2000.
