H.C.R. 10 Enrolled
This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor urges the United States
Congress to make the preservation of federally subsidized, project-based low income housing
a top priority. The resolution urges Congress to work with the state of Utah to form public
and private partnerships to resolve affordable housing problems.
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
WHEREAS, there is a critical need for low income affordable housing throughout the state
of Utah;
WHEREAS, this need is partially met by the thousands of federally subsidized,
project-based low income housing units in the state;
WHEREAS, federally subsidized, project-based low income housing assists some of Utah's
senior citizens, people with disabilities, and single parent and working poor families;
WHEREAS, the federally subsidized low income housing contracts expire over the next
five years;
WHEREAS, many of the these federally subsidized low income housing contracts may not
be renewed and the housing units they provide could be lost from the state's already severely
limited low income housing inventory; and
WHEREAS, the loss of this housing could be harmful to the residents served and would
have a serious impact on low income housing efforts statewide:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
Governor concurring therein, urge the United States Congress to make the preservation of federally
subsidized, project-based low income housing properties a top priority.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor urge Congress to
work with the state of Utah to form public and private partnerships in all potentially affected
communities for the purpose of designing the best local solution to the affordable housing
problem.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the President of the
United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Utah Division
of Community Development and the Olene Walker Housing Trust Fund.
