RESOLUTION SUPPORTING COUNTIES' EXPANSION
OF CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES
2001 GENERAL SESSION
STATE OF UTAH

This joint resolution of the Legislature supports Beaver, Cache, Emery, Millard, Sanpete,
and Uintah Counties' expansion of their correctional facility capacity by contracting with
the Utah Department of Corrections.
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
WHEREAS, counties contract with the Department of Corrections to provide prison bed
space for state prisoners;
WHEREAS, this contracting arrangement has proven beneficial to both the state and
counties and saved the taxpayers from the burden of building new state correctional facilities while
at the same time assisting counties to meet their own correctional space needs; and
WHEREAS, contracting with the Utah Department of Corrections for additional prison bed
space would greatly assist the state and Beaver, Cache, Emery, Millard, Sanpete, and Uintah
Counties' efforts to have sufficient capacity to house their prison populations:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah supports
jail expansion as beneficial to both the state and Beaver, Cache, Emery, Millard, Sanpete, and
Uintah Counties.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Beaver, Cache,
Emery, Millard, Sanpete, and Uintah County Commissions and the Utah Department of
Corrections.
