This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor urges that the preservation
of federally subsidized, project-based low income housing be made a top priority in the state.
The resolution urges that public and private partnerships be formed to resolve affordable
housing problems.
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
WHEREAS, there is a critical need for low income affordable housing throughout the state
of Utah;
WHEREAS, this need is partially met by the thousands of federally subsidized,
project-based low income housing units in the state;
WHEREAS, federally subsidized, project-based low income housing assists some of Utah's
senior citizens, disabled persons, and single parent and working poor families;
WHEREAS, the federally subsidized low income housing contracts expire over the next
five years;
WHEREAS, many of the these federally subsidized low income housing contracts may not
be renewed and the housing units they provide could be lost from the state's already severely
limited low income housing inventory; and
WHEREAS, the loss of this housing could be harmful to the residents served and would
have a serious impact on low income housing efforts statewide:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
Governor concurring therein, urge that the preservation of federally subsidized, project-based low
income housing properties be made a top priority in the state of Utah.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor urge that public and
private partnerships be formed in all potentially affected communities for the purpose of designing
the best local solution to the affordable housing problem.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah Division
of Community Development and the Crossroads Urban Center.
