     This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor condemns acts of bigotry
     targeting Muslims and Arabs in the wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001. The
     resolution urges all citizens to help put an end to these acts of racism. The resolution urges
     that the citizens of Utah and the nation stand together to seek justice but to avoid assessing
     unwarranted blame.
     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
         WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, a horrible and tragic crime against all humanity was
     committed, leaving this country, the state of Utah, and its residents devastated and lost for an
     understanding of this event;
         WHEREAS, since September 11th, h [ Arabic ] Arab h and Muslim citizens and institutions
a      across this
     nation and state have been targeted for blame and have been unjustly subjected to violence, verbal
     threats, and angry rebuke;
          h [ WHEREAS, three Arab-American residents of Utah, and citizens of the United States of
     America, were evicted from a flight to Salt Lake City because other passengers and the pilot
     refused to fly the plane with these Arab-Americans aboard;
] h

         WHEREAS, the struggle for justice should not be guided by vengeance against those of

     h [ Arabic ] Arab h descent or of the Islamic faith;
         WHEREAS, the terrorists who committed the attacks of September 11th were motivated
     by their own hatred and contempt rather than the teachings of the Islamic religion;
         WHEREAS, the state of Utah and the United States of America are vividly aware of the
     lessons learned by experience in places like Topaz, Utah and other internment camps used during
     World War II to imprison Japanese-Americans; and
         WHEREAS, Utah and the United States of America is a land of opportunity and freedom
     for people of all religious, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds:
         NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
     Governor concurring therein, urges the citizens of the state of Utah to condemn all acts of bigotry
     targeting our Muslim and h [ Arabic ] Arab h friends and neighbors.
         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in this time of healing, it is vital that as the residents
     of the state of Utah and of this great nation seek justice for those responsible for the acts of
     terrorism on our nation and its people, that we not resort to unwarranted blame and acts of anger.
         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor urge all citizens of
     Utah to help put an end to all incidents of racism and hatred.
         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, at this time more than ever, it is vital that we stand
     together as a state and nation in protecting the rights and lives of all residents of Utah and the
     United States of America.
         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Islamic Society
     of h greater h Salt Lake City.
