MANUAL ON UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL
2 DEVICES FOR STREETS
3 2002 GENERAL SESSION

6 This act modifies the Motor Vehicle Code to require the Department of Transportation to
7 adopt the most recent edition of the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets
8 and Highways."
9 This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
10 AMENDS:
11 41-6-20, as last amended by Chapter 120, Laws of Utah 1994
12 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
13 Section 1. Section 41-6-20 is amended to read:
14 41-6-20. Manual and specifications for uniform system of traffic-control devices and
15 school crossing guards.
16 (1) (a) In accordance with Title 63, Chapter 46a, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act,
17 the Department of Transportation shall make rules consistent with this chapter adopting a manual
18 and establishing specifications for a uniform system of traffic-control devices for use upon
19 highways within this state.
20 (b) The manual shall correlate with, and where possible conform to, the system set forth
21 in the [1988] most recent edition of the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets
22 and Highways" and other standards issued or endorsed by the federal highway administrator.
23 (2) In accordance with Title 63, Chapter 46a, Utah Administrative Rulemaking Act, the
24 Department of Transportation shall make rules adopting a manual and establishing specifications
25 for a uniform system of traffic-control devices and school crossing guards for school crossing
26 zones, which shall supplement the manual adopted under Subsection (1).
