7 This resolution of the Senate designates February 14, 2002, as Discover Navajo - People of
8 the Fourth World Day during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
9 Be it resolved by the Senate of the state of Utah:
10 WHEREAS, the Discover Navajo Foundation 2002, a nonprofit organization, has
11 successfully completed a state-of-the-art 11,000 square foot pavilion at the Gateway Center in
12 downtown Salt Lake City to house the Discover Navajo - People of the Fourth World exhibit;
13 WHEREAS, the Discover Navajo - People of the Fourth World exhibit has been sanctioned
14 by the Cultural Olympiad of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games;
15 WHEREAS, the Discover Navajo - People of the Fourth World exhibit has been four years
16 in development;
17 WHEREAS, the Navajo code talkers who served in the Pacific during World War II are
18 featured in the exhibit;
19 WHEREAS, the Navajo Tribal Government has completely supported the efforts of the
20 Discover Navajo Foundation 2002;
21 WHEREAS, the Navajo-Diné Nation is the largest nation tribe in the state; and
22 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnny Miller has been and remains a strong supporter of the Navajo
23 people by raising over $2 million in scholarship money for Navajo students:
24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the state of Utah designates
25 February 14, 2002, as Discover Navajo - People of the Fourth World Day during the 2002 Olympic
26 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Kelsey
28 Begay, Mr. Elmer Yazzie, Mr. Tom Lovell, the Navajo-Diné Nation, Mr. Johnny Miller, and the
29 Utah Division of Indian Affairs.
