Committee Chair Wright called the meeting to order at 9:06 a.m.

1.     S.B. 81 Education of Persons with a Disability (E. Mayne)

    Sen. Mayne explained the bill provides that education services are available for students with     disabilities until the end of the school year in which the student turns age 22.

    Ms. Sarah Meier, Utah School Board Association and Utah School Superintendents Association, spoke in opposition to the bill due to the cost to school districts.

    Ms. Corey Rowley, Coalition for People with Disabilities, spoke in support of the bill.

    Ms. May Taylor, State Office of Education, said they estimated that school districts would incur costs of $1,000,000 to $1,500,000 due to the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Buttars moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously, with Sen. Gladwell absent for the vote.




    MOTION: Sen. Wright moved to adjourn the meeting.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Gladwell absent for the vote.

    Chair Wright adjourned the meeting at 9:38 a.m.
