Committee Chair Gladwell called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m.
1. S.B. 44 Funding a Community Legal Center (L. Hillyard)
Sen. Lyle Hillyard introduced the bill. Fraser Neilson, Executive Director, Disability Law Center, assisted in the presentation and distributed a handout.
Brent Manning, Attorney, And Justice for All, spoke in support of the bill and distributed a handout.
MOTION: Sen Peterson moved to pass S.B. 44 out with a favorable recommendation.
The motion passed unanimously, with Sen. Valentine absent for the vote.
2. S.B. 106 Divorce - Children's Testimony Limited (T. Spencer)
Sen. Terry Spencer introduced the bill.
Stewart Ralphs, Director, Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake, and Ken Gardner, AFL-CIO, spoke in opposition to the bill.
Rick Schwermer, Assistant State Court Administrator, stated that the State Judiciary takes no position on the bill.
The Committee moved to the next item on the agenda.
3. S.B. 111 Division of Home in a Divorce (T. Spencer)
Sen. Terry Spencer introduced the bill.
Steward Ralphs, Director, Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake, spoke in opposition to the bill.
Rick Schwermer, Assistant State Court Administrator, stated that the State Judiciary takes no position on the bill.
Grant Holdaway, Focus, spoke in favor of the bill.
The Committee moved to the next item on the agenda.
MOTION: Sen. Hillyard moved to adjourn the meeting.
The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Valentine absent for the vote.
Chair Gladwell adjourned the meeting at 9:20 a.m.
