H.J.R. 501 Enrolled
This joint resolution of the Legislature approves the "Agreement for Exchange of Lands,
2002 Federal - Utah State Trust Lands Consolidation" dated June 18, 2002, between the
state of Utah and the United States government to exchange school and institutional trust
lands and mineral interests for federal lands and mineral interests. The resolution provides
an immediate effective date.
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
WHEREAS, Section 63-34b-101 of the Utah Code requires Legislative approval before
a state agency may legally bind the state by executing an agreement to sell or transfer to the United
States government 10,000 or more acres of any state lands or school and institutional trust lands;
WHEREAS, School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration has agreed with the
United States government to exchange approximately 108,000 acres of state school and
institutional trust lands and mineral interests for approximately 135,000 acres of federal lands and
mineral interests;
WHEREAS, the agreement between the state of Utah and the United States government
entitled "Agreement for Exchange of Lands, 2002 Federal - Utah State Trust Lands Consolidation"
is dated June 18, 2002;
WHEREAS, the agreement would exchange school and institutional trust lands that are
currently scattered and, in many cases, surrounded by federal lands for consolidated lands that
could be more efficiently managed and administered to the benefit of trust land beneficiaries; and
WHEREAS, the proposed exchange is in the best interests of the citizens of Utah:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
approves the "Agreement for Exchange of Lands, 2002 Federal - Utah State Trust Lands
Consolidation" dated June 18, 2002 between the state of Utah and the United States government
to exchange state school and institutional trust lands and mineral interests for federal lands and
mineral interests.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature approves an immediate effective date
for this resolution.
