RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING POSITIVE

                 
INFLUENCE OF LOCAL BUSINESSES ON

                 
STATE ECONOMY

                 
2003 GENERAL SESSION

                  A concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizing the importance
                  of local business to the economy of the state of Utah and urging state agencies and
                  political subdivisions to support local business.
                  Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
                      WHEREAS, local businesses provide valuable goods and services within the state of
                  Utah;
                      WHEREAS, local businesses have a significant and positive economic impact on the
                  state;
                      WHEREAS, local businesses pay corporate franchise taxes, sales taxes, property taxes,
                  and other fees and taxes which benefit the citizens of the state;
                      WHEREAS, local businesses employ citizens of the state of Utah who also pay income
                  taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, and other fees and taxes which benefit the citizens of the
                  state;
                      WHEREAS, government entities and political subdivisions are financed by the taxes
                  and fees paid by local citizens and businesses; and
                      WHEREAS, taxes paid by Utah businesses to state and local governments are essential
                  to provide government services and educate Utah's children:
                      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
                  Governor concurring therein, express support for the business community in the state of Utah
                  and recognizes its important role in creating a healthy economy.
                      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
                  importance of considering the potential negative impact on the Utah business community in its
                  passage of laws and through state agency rulemaking.


                      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
                  valuable benefit of local businesses and recommend that whenever possible, and all else being
                  equal, state agencies and other political subdivisions purchase goods and services from local
                  businesses.
                      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to each state agency
                  director and purchasing agent for the state of Utah.
