Chair Murray called the meeting to order at 8:34 a.m.
MOTION: Representative Dunnigan moved to approve the minutes of the February 6, 2003 committee meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Representative Clark, Representative King, and Representative Morgan absent for the vote.
H.B. 108 Fully Interactive Driving Simulators in Driver Education (J. Dougall. et al)
Representative Dougall explained the bill to the committee.
Kevin Curtis; Douglas Evans, Chief Technology Officer; David Creer, Utah Trucking Association; Chris Purcell, State Farm Insurance; Linda Plouzek, Utah PTA; and Bart Blackstock, Deputy Director - Driver License Division, Department of Public Safety, spoke in support of the bill.
Verl Shell, A-1 Driving School, spoke in opposition to the bill.
MOTION: Representative Dunnigan moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Representative Clark and Representative Morgan absent for the vote.
H.B. 234 Administrative Treatment of Traffic Violations - Technical Amendments (D. Cox)
Representative Cox explained the bill to the committee.
MOTION: Representative Dougall moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Representative Morgan absent for the vote.
S.B. 49 Driver License and Identification Card Amendments (P. Hellewell)
Senator Hellewell explained the bill to the committee.
Bart Blackstock, Deputy Director - Driver License Division, Department of Public Safety, answered questions of committee members and spoke in support of the bill.
MOTION: Representative Kiser moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed unanimously.
H.B. 154, Vision Screening Checkoff for Motor Vehicle Registration and Driver License Application and Renewal, sponsored by Representative Katherine M. Bryson, was not considered in today's meeting.
MOTION: Representative Dougall moved to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
