DESIGNATION OF COMMEMORATIVE DAYS

             6      LONG TITLE
             7      General Description:
             8          This bill creates a commemorative day for Utah men and women serving in the armed
             9      forces around the world, and adds Utah to the states commemorating a POW/MIA
             10      Recognition Day.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    designates the third Monday in May as Yellow Ribbon Day;
             14          .    designates H [ September 19 ] THE THIRD FRIDAY IN SEPTEMBER h as POW/MIA
             14a      Recognition Day; and
             15          .    gives responsibility to the Division of Veterans Affairs to coordinate activities and
             16      promotion for Yellow Ribbon Day and POW/MIA Recognition Day.
             17      Monies Appropriated in this Bill:
             18          None
             19      Other Special Clauses:
             20          None
             21      Utah Code Sections Affected:
             22      AMENDS:
             23          63-13-5.6, as enacted by Chapter 174, Laws of Utah 2001

             25      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             26          Section 1. Section 63-13-5.6 is amended to read:
             27           63-13-5.6. Commemorative days.


             28          (1) The following days shall be commemorated yearly [on the designated calendar
             29      date]:
             30          [(1)] (a) Bill of Rights Day, on December 15; [and]
             31          [(2)] (b) Constitution Day, on September 17[.];
             32          (c) Yellow Ribbon Day, on the third Monday in May, in honor of men and women who
             33      are serving or have served in the U.S. armed forces around the world in defense of freedom;
             34      and
             35          (d) POW/MIA Recognition Day, on H [ September 19. ] THE THIRD FRIDAY IN
             35a      SEPTEMBER. h
             36          (2) The Division of Veterans Affairs shall coordinate activities, special programs, and
             37      promotional information to heighten public awareness and involvement relating to Subsections
             38      (1)(c) and (d).
