LONG TITLE
General Description:
This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor designates June 12-19,
2004 as Utah Military Appreciation Week and recognizes the contributions of the
United States Military and its members to the state of Utah and its citizens.
Highlighted Provisions:
This resolution:
. designates June 12-19, 2004 as Utah Military Appreciation Week in recognition of
the United States Military presence in the state of Utah;
. recognizes military servicemen and women and their families who have served in
Utah and throughout the world; and
. encourages communities throughout the state to schedule events and activities that
recognize the contributions of the United States Military and its members.

None
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
WHEREAS, the state of Utah has always supported the United States Military in
thought and in action;
WHEREAS, Utahns have an honored tradition of volunteering and enlisting in the
military and Utah leads all 50 states in the percentage of enlistments per capita;
WHEREAS, Utahns have been part of the United States Military in every major conflict
for more than a century and a half including the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Spanish
American War, the Philippine Insurrection, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the
Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and in Afghanistan and Iraq;
WHEREAS, many Utahns have given their lives in those conflicts;
WHEREAS, there are currently more Utah National Guard and reserve troops deployed
in Afghanistan and Iraq per capita than any other state;
WHEREAS, Utahns have also generously supported America's military effort through the
purchase of war and savings bonds and other means;
WHEREAS, Utah civilians have performed selfless and essential duties in support of the
United States Military as volunteers, workers, and leaders during times of national crisis as well as
in times of peace;
WHEREAS, Utah military installations and defense industries such as Northrup
Grumman, ATK, Thiokol, Boeing, Williams International, Rolls-Royce, L-3 Systems, EDO
Corporation, and Evans and Sutherland have played a vital and strategic role in the defense of our
nation;
WHEREAS, the United States Military has also been a great benefit to the state of Utah,
and its economy, culture, and social fabric and has become an integral part of Utah;
WHEREAS, Utah desires to express appreciation to all Utahns who have served in the
military, to their families, and to the military organizations in which they have served for the
sacrifices they have made;
WHEREAS, events and activities recognizing the contributions of the United States
Military and its members could be held in communities throughout the state of Utah as a way to
show gratitude for the service that has been rendered;
WHEREAS, the National Reserve Officers Association is meeting in Utah on June 12,
2004;
WHEREAS, the Air Force Association national meeting, "Focus on Defense," will be
held at Hill Air Force Base on June 16 and 17, 2004;
WHEREAS, Flag Day is June 14, 2004; and
WHEREAS, June 14 is also the United States Army's 229th Birthday:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
Governor concurring therein, designate June 12-19, 2004 as Utah Military Appreciation Week in
recognition of the United States Military presence in the state of Utah.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
military servicemen and women who are serving in Utah and throughout the world, those who
have fallen in the line of duty, and the sacrifices of the families of service personnel.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize Utah's
vitally important contribution to national defense and express continued support for the presence
of the United States Air Force at Hill Air Force Base, its flying missions over the Utah Test and
Training Range, its functions performed at the Ogden Air Logistics Center, defense missions
performed by Tooele Army Depot, the United States Army Dugway Proving Ground, Northrup
Grumman, reserve installations throughout the state, and the Utah National Guard.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor encourage
communities throughout the state to schedule events and activities that recognize the
contributions of the United States Military and its members.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to Hill Air Force
Base, the Utah Test and Training Range, the Ogden Air Logistics Center, the Tooele Army
Depot, the United States Army Dugway Proving Ground, Northrup Grumman, the state's reserve
installations, and the Utah National Guard.
