LONG TITLE
General Description:
This joint resolution of the Legislature recognizes the "Clog America" International
Festival Ensemble.
Highlighted Provisions:
This resolution:
. recognizes Utah's "Clog America" International Festival Ensemble as Ambassadors
of Peace and Friendship to the World.
Special Clauses:
None
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
WHEREAS, Clog America is comprised of award-winning dancers and musicians from
Utah who have had the great honor of representing Utah and the United States of America in
over 40 major festivals and events throughout Europe, Canada, Mexico, Korea, and the United
States;
WHEREAS, the Clog America Ensemble includes 35 dancers plus the Clog America
Band featuring fiddles, guitar, banjo, bass, mandolin, percussion, and vocalists;
WHEREAS, the Clog America Dance Ensemble and Band have been invited by the
International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals (CIOFF) to represent the United
States at the 2004 World Folkloriada to be held in August in Budapest, Hungary, with more
than 2,000 performers representing over 70 countries;
WHEREAS, the CIOFF Folkloriada is the "Olympics" of the folk art world and is held
every four years in a different country;
WHEREAS, Clog America is the only performing group selected to represent the United
States at this prestigious international event;
WHEREAS, Clog America is a Utah cultural treasure, having performed at such notable
events as the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the 2002 World Cup Folkfest in Inchon, Korea;
WHEREAS, representing Utah and the United States at these world events fosters
friendship and good will with the people of other nations through the international languages of
music and dance, promoting positive international relations with those who may otherwise only
know Americans through movies and the news reports they watch on television; and
WHEREAS, Clog America participants conduct themselves as true professionals on stage,
are entirely self-funded, and work hard to prepare and travel at their own expense to attend
festivals across the country and the world:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
recognize the Clog America International Festival Ensemble as Ambassadors of Peace and
Friendship to the World as they prepare to participate in the 2004 World Folkloriada.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Clog
America International Festival Ensemble.
