             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill amends the State System of Public Education Code by creating a pilot program
             10      to recruit professionals to volunteer as substitute teachers.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    creates a pilot program to recruit individuals from a variety of professions to
             14      volunteer at least one day per year as a substitute teacher;
             15          .    directs the State Board of Education to:
             16              .    develop the pilot program;
             17              .    make rules, as necessary, to administer the pilot program; and
             18              .    make a report evaluating the program to the Education Interim Committee;
             19          .    provides that school districts and schools may choose to participate in the pilot
             20      program;
             21          .    allows school district foundations to accept donations to underwrite the pilot
             22      program; and
             23          .    sunsets the pilot program on July 1, 2007.

             34      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             35          Section 1. Section 53A-4-206 is enacted to read:
             36          53A-4-206. Volunteer Substitute Teachers Pilot Program.
             37          (1) A pilot program is created to recruit individuals from a variety of professions to
             38      volunteer at least one day per year as a substitute teacher.
             39          (2) The State Board of Education shall:
             40          (a) develop the pilot program; and
             41          (b) make rules, as necessary, to administer the pilot program.
             42          (3) (a) School districts and schools may choose to participate in the pilot program.
             43          (b) The State Board of Education shall determine the maximum number of school
             44      districts and schools who may participate in the pilot program.
             45          (4) A foundation established under Section 53A-4-205 may accept donations to
             46      underwrite the costs of the pilot program.
             47          (5) The State Board of Education shall submit a report evaluating the program to the
             48      Education Interim Committee by October 1, 2006.
             49          Section 2. Section 63-55b-153 is amended to read:
             50           63-55b-153. Repeal dates -- Titles 53, 53A, and 53B.
             51          (1) Subsection 53-3-205 (9)(a)(i)(D) is repealed July 1, 2007.
             52          (2) Subsection 53-3-804 (2)(g) is repealed July 1, 2007.
             53          (3) Title 53, Chapter 12, State Olympic Public Safety Command Act, is repealed July
             54      1, 2003.
             55          (4) Section 53A-1-403.5 is repealed July 1, 2007.
             56          (5) Section 53A-4-206 is repealed July 1, 2007.
             57          [(5)] (6) Section 53B-8-104.5 is repealed July 1, 2009.
