Rep. Harper called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.
MOTION: Rep. Seitz moved to approve the minutes of the January 28, 2004 meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Buffmire absent for the vote.
HB0074 Extension of Sales and Use Tax Exemption for Steel Industry (Rep. B. Ferry)
Rep. Ferry introduced the bill and explained its intent using handouts. Tom Bingham, Utah Manufacturers Association and Mike German, Taxpayers Association spoke for the bill and Linda Hilton, Coalition of Religious Communities and Dorothy Owen, private citizen spoke against.
MOTION: Rep. Philpot moved to transmit the bill with a favorable recommendation. The motion passed with Rep. Moss voting in opposition and Rep. Buffmire absent for the vote.
HJR011 Resolution Urging a Study on Statewide Uniform Fees Imposed on Motor
Homes (Rep. L. Shurtliff)
Rep. Shurtliff introduced the bill and explained its intent. Lynn Solarczyk, Utah State Tax
Commission spoke to the bill.
MOTION: Rep. Moss moved to transmit the bill out favorably.
SUBSTITUTE MOTION: Rep. Philpot moved to transmit the bill to an interim study. The
motion failed with Reps. Allen, Anderson, Buffmire, Moss, Peterson, and Seitz voting in
opposition, Reps. Frank, Last, Lawrence, Philpot, and Clark voting in favor and Rep. Harper absent
for the vote. The original motion passed with Reps. Frank, Last, Lawrence, and Philpot voting in
opposition and Rep. Harper absent for the vote.
MOTION: Rep. Peterson moved to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 2:56 p.m.
