Chair Rep. David Clark called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m.

H.B. 53    Additional State Retirement Benefit (Rep. L. Shurtliff)

Representative Shurtliff explained the bill to the committee.

Kent Able, Utah Retired School Employees Association, and Bob Newman, Utah Retirement Systems, spoke to the bill.

Jim Eldridge, Utah Education Association, and Ruby Hammel, Utah Retired School Employees Association spoke in favor to the bill.

MOTION:    Representative Hansen moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed         with Representative Clark voting in opposition.

H.B. 83    State Retirement - Funded Ratio (Rep. A. Hardy)

Representative Hardy explained the bill to the committee.

Bob Newman, Utah Retirement Systems, spoke to the bill.


MOTION:    Representative Newbold moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed         unanimously.

H.C.R. 4    Resolution Encouraging Lifetime and Retirement Savings Accounts (Rep. C. Bennion)

Representative Bennion explained the bill to the committee.

MOTION
:    Representative Ferrin moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed         with Representative Buffmire voting in opposition.


H.R. 5    Resolution Urging Congress to Pass Social Security Retirement Account Legislation (Rep. M. Morley)


Representative Morley explained the resolution to the committee.

Representative Bennion spoke in favor of the bill.

MOTION:    Representative Lockhart moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed         with Representative Buffmire and Representative Hansen voting in opposition.


H.R. 6    Resolution Urging Congress to Pass Lifetime and Retirement Savings Account Legislation (Rep. M. Morley)

Representative Morley explained the resolution to the committee.

MOTION:    
Representative Ferrin moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed         with Representative Buffmire and Representative Hansen voting in opposition.

H.B. 253    Retirement Office Amendments (Rep. A. Hardy)

MOTION:
    Representative Hardy moved to amend the bill as follows:

1.    Page 1, Lines 13 through 15 :    

             13      State Retirement Office;
             14          .    provides that reemployment restrictions following retirement does not apply to
             15     
[[   appointed   ]]        appointive       officers;



2.    Page 5, Line 131 :    

             131          (10) This section does not apply to
[[   appointed   ]]        appointive       officers or elected positions.


        The motion passed unanimously.

Representative Hardy explained the bill to the committee.

Dan Anderson, Legal Counsel, Utah Retirement Systems, and Bob Newman, Utah Retirement Systems, spoke to the bill.

MOTION:    Representative Bigelow moved to pass the bill out favorably. The motion passed         unanimously.

MOTION:    Representative Anderson moved to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously.
