             6      LONG TITLE
             7      General Description:
             8          This bill provides for the replacement of a local school board president or vice president
             9      and establishes board quorum requirements.
             10      Highlighted Provisions:
             11          This bill:
             12          .    provides that when a vacancy occurs in the office of president or vice president of a
             13      local school board for any reason, a replacement shall be elected for the unexpired
             14      term; and
             15          .    requires attendance of a simple majority of the board members to constitute a
             16      quorum for the transaction of official business.

             25      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             26          Section 1. Section 53A-3-201 is amended to read:
             27           53A-3-201. Election of officers -- Terms -- Time of election -- Removal of officers



             28      -- Quorum requirements.
             29          (1) A local school board shall elect a president and a vice-president whose terms of
             30      office are for two years and until their successors are elected.
             31          (2) The elections shall be held during the first board meeting in January following a
             32      regular school board election held in the district.
             33          (3) An officer appointed or elected by a local school board may be removed from
             34      office for cause by a vote of two-thirds of the board.
             35          (4) When a vacancy occurs in the office of president or vice president of the board for
             36      any reason, a replacement shall be elected for the unexpired term.
             37          (5) Attendance of a simple majority of the board members constitutes a quorum for the
             38      transaction of official business.
