7 General Description:
8 This bill requires the State Board of Education to review and present options for
9 reducing the size of school districts meeting certain criteria.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This bill:
12 . requires the State Board of Education to review options for reducing the enrollment
13 size of school districts meeting certain criteria; and
14 . present a report and recommendations based on its review to the Education Interim
15 Committee.

24 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
25 Section 1. Section 53A-2-124 is enacted to read:
26 53A-2-124. Options for school district boundary changes.
27 The State Board of Education shall:

28 (1) review options to adjust school district boundaries so that a school district does not
29 enroll more than 30,000 pupils, except for school districts with boundaries that are the same as:
30 (a) municipal boundaries; or
31 (b) county boundaries;
32 (2) consult with local officials of affected school districts as part of the review; and
33 (3) report to the Education Interim Committee prior to November 30, 2006 concerning:
34 (a) recommended boundary changes to meet the specifications of Subsection (1);
35 (b) issues that would need to be addressed if the Legislature were to enact the boundary
36 changes;
37 (c) recommendations on how to address those issues; and
38 (d) a feasible timeline for implementing recommended boundary changes should the
39 Legislature enact the changes.
