             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizes the 100th
             10      Anniversary of the Utah Manufacturers Association.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This resolution:
             13          .    recognizes 2005 as the Centennial Year of the Utah Manufacturers Association and
             14      congratulates the association, and all manufacturers, for 100 years of service to
             15      Utah; and
             16          .    urges all citizens of the state to join in the celebration and dedicate themselves to a
             17      stronger economic society based on the Free Enterprise System.
             18      Special Clauses:
             19          None
             20     
             21      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
             22          WHEREAS, the Utah Manufacturers Association (UMA) was incorporated under the
             23      laws of the state of Utah in 1905 to broaden the state's industrial base by fostering a sound
             24      economic climate;
             25          WHEREAS, the UMA has worked closely with the state's legislative bodies,
             26      Governors, and with local officials throughout the state for 100 years to promote sound
             27      economic practices;


             28          WHEREAS, the sound principles of the American Free Enterprise System have been
             29      promoted through UMA's programs;
             30          WHEREAS, the manufacturing industry has been a building block of Utah's economy
             31      and way of life since the arrival of the pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley and has historically
             32      been a major element in ensuring a strong economy in Utah;
             33          WHEREAS, the efforts of the UMA have fostered a closer working relationship
             34      between the state of Utah, its subdivisions, and its private business institutions;
             35          WHEREAS, these efforts have helped to develop a business climate ranked among the
             36      very best in the United States;
             37          WHEREAS, Utah's manufacturing industry provides the second highest paying jobs in
             38      the state, equal to 122% of the state average, and employing 13% of the state's total workforce
             39      with an annual payroll in excess of $4.2 billion; and
             40          WHEREAS, the people of the state of Utah have benefitted from the efforts of the
             41      UMA and its member companies through an increase in high-paying jobs and an increase in the
             42      standard of living:
             43          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
             44      Governor concurring therein, recognize 2005 as the Centennial Year of the Utah Manufacturers
             45      Association and congratulates the association, and all manufacturers, for 100 years of service to
             46      Utah.
             47          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor urge all citizens
             48      of the state to join in the celebration of this centennial anniversary year and dedicate
             49      themselves to a stronger economic society based on the American Free Enterprise System.
             50          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah
             51      Manufacturers Association.
