7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor urges greater family
10 financial security and increased use of Utah Saves for promoting financial security.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This resolution:
13 . encourages all Utahns to strive to bring greater financial security to themselves and
14 their families; and
15 . recognizes the efforts of Utah Saves community partners to help Utahns achieve
16 greater financial security.

20 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
21 WHEREAS, Utah Saves is a strategic initiative that brings the community together to
22 help all Utahns build wealth, reduce debt, and create long-term financial security;
23 WHEREAS, Utah Saves arose out of a need to mobilize the community to develop
24 proactive, systemic changes in how Utahns address social and economic issues;
25 WHEREAS, financial insecurity is at the core of many of society's social ills;
26 WHEREAS, beyond poverty and homelessness, poor financial habits can lead to poor
27 health, domestic violence, troubled youth, and the breakdown of families and neighborhoods;

28 WHEREAS, Utah, as a percentage of its population, is at the top of the nation's
29 personal bankruptcy and mortgage foreclosure rates;
30 WHEREAS, Utah Saves can give people tools to achieve goals toward financial
31 freedom;
32 WHEREAS, Utah Saves is directed and supported by a broad-based coalition of
33 community partners providing their talent, energy, influence, and resources to empower all
34 Utahns to build lifelong financial security; and
35 WHEREAS, Utah Saves can create widespread public awareness that saving money and
36 planning for future financial security is a must:
37 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
38 Governor concurring therein, encourage all Utahns to strive to bring greater financial security
39 to themselves and their families.
40 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
41 efforts of Utah Saves and its broad-based coalition of community partners to help Utahns
42 achieve greater financial security.
43 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to Utah Saves.
