RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING HUNTSMAN
CANCER INSTITUTE
2005 GENERAL SESSION

LONG TITLE
General Description:
This joint resolution of the Legislature gives state recognition to the Huntsman Cancer
Institute.
Highlighted Provisions:
This resolution:
. recognizes the Huntsman Cancer Institute as the official, comprehensive cancer
center of the state of Utah.
Special Clauses:
None

Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute is a center for a comprehensive approach to
relieving the burden of cancer;
WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute has made unique research discoveries on
the causes of cancer and new ways to diagnose and treat it more effectively;
WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute has implemented cancer education
programs for the entire population of Utah, including traditionally underserved groups;
WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute has also developed programs to increase
awareness, to promote early detection of cancer, and to alter habits, like cessation of smoking,
that increase cancer risk; and
WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute represents a model for public-private

partnerships in the interest of serving the people of Utah:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
recognizes the Huntsman Cancer Institute as the official, comprehensive cancer center of the
state of Utah.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Huntsman
Cancer Institute.
