             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill establishes the Utah Museum of Fine Arts as a state general and multicultural
             10      art museum and a repository of art and related objects for the people of Utah.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This bill:
             13          .    officially confirms the Utah Museum of Fine Arts' status as a state institution
             14      charged with the broad responsibility of collecting and exhibiting, for the
             15      educational enrichment of the citizens of this state, art and related objects from
             16      around the world from prehistoric times to the present;
             17          .    provides duties and responsibilities for the museum; and
             18          .    authorizes the University of Utah to receive gifts, contributions, and donations for
             19      the museum.

             29      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             30          Section 1. Section 53B-17-701 is enacted to read:

Part 7. Utah Museum of Fine Arts

             32          53B-17-701. Utah Museum of Fine Arts.
             33          (1) There is established at the University of Utah the Utah Museum of Fine Arts as:
             34          (a) a state general and multicultural art museum; and
             35          (b) a state institution charged with the broad responsibility of collecting and exhibiting,
             36      for the education and enrichment of its citizens, art and related objects from around the world
             37      from prehistoric times to the present.
             38          (2) The museum shall:
             39          (a) serve as a repository in Utah of the objects referred to in Subsection (1);
             40          (b) collect and display tangible art objects that reflect the past, present, and continuing
             41      development of the visual arts in America and throughout the rest of the world;
             42          (c) provide professional expertise and assistance in the proper care of the tangible art
             43      objects displayed at the museum; and
             44          (d) engage visitors to the museum in discovering meaningful connections with the
             45      artistic expressions of the world's cultures by:
             46          (i) acting as a responsible steward of the material legacy of the visual arts located at the
             47      Utah Museum of Fine Arts for the people of Utah;
             48          (ii) serving as a teaching, learning, and research resource for the University of Utah,
             49      the state's greater educational community, and the general public;
             50          (iii) promoting an open dialogue with visitors and the community about the role of
             51      visual arts in our society;
             52          (iv) fostering and celebrating the diverse artistic expressions and accomplishments of
             53      the people of Utah and around the world;
             54          (v) cultivating community partnerships and collaborations to ensure that the visual arts
             55      reach a broad spectrum of the general public; and
             56          (vi) offering a wide range of experiences that will enable visitors to the museum to
             57      explore the variety of ways the arts can inform and enhance the human experience.
             58          Section 2. Section 53B-17-702 is enacted to read:


             59          53B-17-702. Acceptance of gifts.
             60          The University of Utah may receive gifts, contributions, and donations of all kinds,
             61      including tangible objects for the development of or display in the museum.
