RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING HUNTSMAN
2 CANCER INSTITUTE

7 LONG TITLE
8 General Description:
9 This joint resolution of the Legislature gives state recognition to the Huntsman Cancer
10 Institute.
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This resolution:
13 . recognizes the Huntsman Cancer Institute as the official, comprehensive cancer
14 center of the state of Utah.
15 Special Clauses:
16 None

18 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
19 WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute is a center for a comprehensive approach to
20 relieving the burden of cancer;
21 WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute has made unique research discoveries on
22 the causes of cancer and new ways to diagnose and treat it more effectively;
23 WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute has implemented cancer education
24 programs for the entire population of Utah, including traditionally underserved groups;
25 WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute has also developed programs to increase
26 awareness, to promote early detection of cancer, and to alter habits, like cessation of smoking,
27 that increase cancer risk; and

28 WHEREAS, the Huntsman Cancer Institute represents a model for public-private
29 partnerships in the interest of serving the people of Utah:
30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
31 recognizes the Huntsman Cancer Institute as the official, comprehensive cancer center of the
32 state of Utah.
33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Huntsman
34 Cancer Institute.
