Committee Chair Thomas called the meeting to order at 4:10 p.m.

MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to approve the minutes of 2-28-05. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Stephenson absent at the time of the vote.

1. S.J.R. 19    Resolution Recognizing Granite School District's 100 Years (Sen. G. Davis)

Sen. Gene Davis presented the resolution.

MOTION: Sen. Hale moved to pass S.J.R. 19, Resolution Recognizing Granite School District's 100 Years, out with a favorable recommendation.

The motion passed unanimously.



2. H.B. 86    Utah College of Applied Technology Amendments (Rep. R. Bigelow)

Rep. Ron Bigelow presented the bill and distributed a summary sheet. Darrel White, President, Utah College of Applied Technology and Tom Bingham, President, Utah Manufacturing Association, spoke in support.

MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to pass H.B. 86, Utah College of Applied Technology Amendments, out with a favorable recommendation.

The motion passed unanimously.

3. H.B. 102    Higher Education Savings Incentive Program Amendments (Rep. S. Wyatt)

Rep. Scott L. Wyatt presented the bill and distributed a fact sheet. Lynne Ward, Director, Utah Higher Education Savings Incentive Plan, spoke in support and distributed a packet of marketing material samples.

MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to pass H.B. 102, Higher Education Savings Incentive Program Amendments, out with a favorable recommendation.

The motion passed unanimously.

4. H.B. 136    Charter School Enrollment (Rep. J. Ferrin)

Sen. Stephenson and Rep. James A. Ferrin presented the bill. Kim Coleman, a parent, spoke in opposition.

MOTION: Sen. Stephenson moved to pass H.B. 136, Charter School Enrollment, out with a favorable recommendation.

The motion passed unanimously.

MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously.

Chair Thomas adjourned the meeting at 4:46 p.m.
