Chair Walker called the meeting to order at 4:10 p.m.

    MOTION: Sen. Evans moved to approve the minutes of February 16, 2005.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sens. Knudson and Mayne absent for the vote.

1.    S.B. 192    High Technology Economic Development Appropriation (Sen. L. A. Mansell)

    
MOTION: Sen. Eastman moved to replace SB192 with 1st Sub. SB 192.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sens. Knudson and Mayne absent for the vote.

    Sen. Eastman presented the bill and distributed the following handouts: "Answers to FAQ's About the SB 192, The High Technology Economic Development Initiative" and

"High Technology Economic Development Initiative SB 192."

    Lane Beattie, President and CEO, Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, spoke in favor of the bill and responded to questions from committee members.

    Richard Nelson, President and CEO, Utah Information Technology Association, spoke in favor of the bill and stated that the Salt Lake Chamber, the Economic Development Corporation of Utah, the Utah Information Technology Association, and the Utah Life Sciences Association support the bill.

    Scott Anderson, President and CEO, Zions Bank, spoke in favor of the bill.

    Dinesh Patel, Managing Director, Spring Capital, spoke in favor of the bill and responded to questions from committee members.

     MOTION: Sen. Evans moved to pass 1st Sub. SB192 out of committee with a favorable recommendation.

    The motion passed unanimously.

2.    S.B. 137    Tourism, Recreation, Cultural, and Convention Facilities Tax Amendments (Sen. H. Stephenson)

     MOTION: Sen. Evans moved to replace SB 137 with 1st Sub. SB 137.

    The motion passed unanimously.

    Sen. Stephenson presented the bill and responded to questions from committee members.

     MOTION: Sen. Evans moved to accept the following amendment:

    Page 2, Line 55:    Delete "ant" and insert "and"

     The motion passed unanimously.

     Gary DeSeelhout, President, Solitude/Cottonwood Resorts, representing Snowbird, Alta and Brighton Ski Resorts, spoke in favor of the bill and responded to questions from committee members. He distributed two handouts regarding the ski industry in Utah.

Kara Travino, Salt Lake County Clerk, clarified the bill and stated that the County has


     funded this program for the last few years. The County has not taken a position on the     bill at this time.

     MOTION: Sen. Evans moved to pass 1st Sub. SB 137, as amended, out of committee with a favorable recommendation.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Knudson absent for the vote.

     MOTION: Sen. Eastman moved to adjourn.

    Chair Walker adjourned the meeting at 5:00 p.m.
