             7      LONG TITLE
             8      General Description:
             9          This bill modifies a provision relating to municipal civil service commissions.
             10      Highlighted Provisions:
             11          This bill:
             12          .    eliminates a prohibition against the dissolution of a civil service commission by a
             13      city that established the commission before a certain date and authorizes the
             14      dissolution.

             23      Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             24          Section 1. Section 10-3-1003 is amended to read:
             25           10-3-1003. Civil service commission -- Number, term, vacancies.
             26          (1) (a) A city of the first or second class may establish a civil service commission
             27      under this part.
             28          (b) A city that establishes a civil service commission under this part [before January 1,
             29      2001] may [not] dissolve the civil service commission.


             30          (2) Each civil service commission under this part shall consist of three members
             31      appointed by the city legislative body.
             32          (3) (a) The term of office of commission members shall be six years, but members
             33      shall be appointed so that the term of office of one member shall expire on the 30th day of June
             34      of each even-numbered year.
             35          (b) If a vacancy occurs in the civil service commission, it shall be filled by
             36      appointment by the city legislative body for the unexpired term.
