Committee Chair Thomas called the meeting to order at 8:13 a.m.
MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to approve the minutes of 1-24-06. The motion passed unanimously.
1. S.B. 187 Science and Technology Education Program (Sen. P. Knudson)
Sen. Knudsen presented the bill. Greg Jones, State Science Advisor, State Office of Education, spoke in support.
MOTION: Sen. Hale moved to pass S.B. 187, "Science and Technology Education Program," out with a favorable recommendation. The motion passed unanimously.
2. S.R. 2 Resolution Encouraging Utah Schools to Educate Children Regarding Risks of Sun Exposure (Sen. P. Arent)
Sen. Arent presented the bill. The following people spoke in support: Dr. Wendy Matis; Dr. C. David Hansen; Kaylan Judd, Miss Teen Lehi; Faye Keller, American Cancer Society; Sylvia Rickard, Skin Cancer Awareness; Rose Defa, Utah Cancer Action Network; Tiffany Berg; Val Bateman, Executive Director, Utah Medical Association; and Dr. Ralph Bradley, Utah Dermatology Society.
MOTION: Sen. Madsen moved to pass S.R. 2, "Resolution Encouraging Utah Schools to Educate Children Regarding Risks of Sun Exposure," out with a favorable recommendation.
The motion passed unanimously.
3. H.B. 82 Education Information Technology Systems (Rep. K. Holdaway)
Rep. Holdaway presented the bill. Ray Timothy, Superintendent, State Office of Education; Steve Peterson, Utah School Boards; and Dave Buhler, Associate Superintendent, Utah State Higher Education spoke in support.
MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to pass H.B. 82, "Education Information Technology Systems," out with a favorable recommendation. The motion passed unanimously.

Rep. Morley presented the bill.
