Committee Chair Thomas called the meeting to order at 4:13 p.m.

MOTION: Sen. Hale moved to approve the minutes of February 8, 2006. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Eastman absent for the vote.

1. H.B. 226 Kindergarten Readiness (Rep. L. Shurtliff)

Rep. LaWanna Shurtliff presented the bill. Brett Moulding, Utah State Office of Education, and Kim Campbell, Vice President, UEA, spoke in support.

    MOTION:
Sen. Arent moved to pass H.B. 226, Kindergarten Readiness, out with a          favorable recommendation. The motion passed unanimously.

     MOTION: Sen. Arent moved to place H.B. 226 on the Consent Calendar.

    After committee discussion, the motion was withdrawn.
    



2. H.B. 119 Board of Regents Amendments (Rep. J. Alexander)

    
Rep. Alexander presented the bill with the help of Sen. Stephenson.

     MOTION: Sen. Stephenson moved to pass H.B. 119, Board of Regents Amendments, out     with a favorable recommendation. The motions passed with Sens. Arent and Hale voting in     opposition.

MOTION: Sen. Hale moved to adjourn.

Chair Thomas adjourned the meeting at 4:30 p.m.
