Acting Committee Chair Peterson called the meeting to order at 2:18 p.m.
1. Approval of Minutes
Sen. Hatch moved to approve the minutes of February 6, 2006.
The motion passed unanimously.
2. S.B. 217 School and Institutional Trust Lands Amendments (Sen. T. Hatch)
Sen. Thomas Hatch introduced the bill.
James Lee, Chairman, SITLA; Michael Morris, Vice Chair, SITLA; Ruland Gill, citizen; Margaret Bird, Trust Lands Specialist, Utah State Office of Education; and Natalie Gordon, Trust Lands Commissioner, Utah PTA, spoke in opposition to the bill. Natalie Gordon distributed a handout.
MOTION: Sen. Hatch moved to pass S.B. 217, School and Institutional Trust Lands Amendments , out favorably.
The motion passed with Sen. Evans voting in opposition.
3. H.B. 45 Bear River Development Act (Rep. J. S. Adams)
Rep. Stuart Adams introduced the bill.
Fred Finlinson, Attorney, Utah Water Coalition, answered questions from the committee.
Erin Neyrey, River Defense Coordinator, Utah Rivers Council; and Will Bagley, Historian, Utah Rivers Council, spoke in opposition to the bill.
MOTION: Sen. Hatch moved to pass H.B. 45, Bear River Development Act , out favorably.
The motion passed with Sen. Fife and Sen. McCoy voting in opposition.
4. S.B. 217 Reconsideration of School and Institutional Trust Lands Amendments (Sen. T. Hatch)
MOTION: Sen. Hatch moved to reconsider S.B. 217.
The motion passed unanimously.
MOTION: Sen. Hatch moved to return S.B. 217 to the Rules Committee.
The motion passed unanimously.
MOTION: Sen. McCoy moved to adjourn.
The motion passed unanimously.
Acting Chair Peterson adjourned the meeting at 3:21 p.m.
