Committee Chair Killpack called the meeting to order at 4:27 p.m.

Approval of Minutes

     MOTION: Sen. Walker moved to approve the minutes of February 10, 2006.

     The motion passed unanimously with Sens. Jenkins and Hale absent for the vote.
    
1.    S.B. 227 Responsibilities of Public Transit Districts (S. McCoy)

    
Sen. McCoy explained the bill and the following amendments were distributed:

1.    Page 1, Lines 14 through 15 :    

             14          .    requires a public transit district to assist and coordinate with other state agencies to
             15      help recipients of public assistance
{   find employment   }        to overcome transportation barriers to employment and utilize public transportation to seek and

maintain employment       ; and



2.    Page 3, Lines 72 through 73 :    

             72          (3) A public transit district incorporated under this part shall assist and coordinate with
             73      other state agencies to help recipients of public assistance
{   find employment   }        to:

        (a) overcome transportation barriers to employment; and
        (b) utilize public transportation to seek and maintain employment  
.


    
MOTION: Sen. Walker moved to adopt the amendments.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sens. Jenkins and Hale absent for the vote.

    
John English, General Manager, Utah Transit Authority, spoke in support of the bill     and answered questions from the committee.

    
MOTION: Sen. Walker moved to proceed to the next item on the agenda.

    The motion passed unanimously.

2.    H.B. 370 Transportation Planning Amendments (B. Dee)

    
Rep. Dee explained the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Mayne moved to pass the bill out favorably.

    The motion passed unanimously.

    
MOTION: Sen. Hale moved that the bill be placed on the Consent Calendar.

    
The motion passed unanimously.

3.    H.B. 293 Transportation - Oversize and Overweight Permit (K. Gibson)
    

    Rep. Gibson explained the bill.

    Linda Hull, and Rick Clasby, Utah Department of Transportation, further clarified and spoke     in support of the bill.

    


     MOTION: Sen. Jenkins moved to pass the bill out favorably.

    The motion passed unanimously.

4.    H.B. 267 Transportation Construction Amendments (Julie Fisher)

    
Committee Chair Killpack explained the bill.

    Carlos Braceros, Deputy Director, Utah Department of Transportation, further explained the     bill.

    Joey Gilbert, Vice President, Association of General Contractors, spoke in support of the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Walker moved to pass the bill out favorably.

    The motion passed unanimously.

     MOTION: Sen. Hale moved to adjourn.
