Committee Chair Dayton called the meeting to order at 3:43 p.m.
1. Approval of Minutes
MOTION: Sen. Stephenson moved to approve the minutes of January 22, 2007. The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Jones absent at the time of the vote.
2. S.B. 56 Teacher Association Amendments
Sen. Mark B. Madsen presented the bill. David Barrett, President, Utah Council of Educators; Jonathan Lawes, Board Member, Utah Council of Educators; Kelly Tauteoli, Board Member, Utah Council of Educators; and Shawna Baird, American Federation of Teachers, spoke in support.
McKell Withers, Superintendent, Salt Lake City School District; Moya Kessig, Executive Director of Human Resources, Jordan School District; Steve Peterson, representing the Utah School Boards Association and the Utah State Superintendents Association; Jeff Leonard, General Counsel, Utah Employees Association; and Susan Kuzick, Executive Director, Utah Education Association, spoke in opposition.
MOTION: Sen. Peterson moved to pass S.B. 56, Teacher Association Amendments, out with a favorable recommendation.
The motion passed with Sens. Jones and Romero voting in opposition.
MOTION: Sen. Peterson moved to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously.
Chair Dayton adjourned the meeting at 4:40 p.m.
