Committee Chair Peterson called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

1.    Approval of Minutes

     MOTION: Sen. Christensen moved to approve the minutes of January 24, 2007.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis and Sen. Stowell absent at the time of voting.

2. S.B. 161 Hunting License Amendments (Sen. A. Christensen)

    
Sen. Christensen introduced the bill. Jim Karpowitz, Director, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, participated in the presentation. A handout was distributed.

    Ernie Perkins, Wild Life and Habitat Coalition spoke in support of the bill and distributed a handout. Miles Moretti, Mule Deer Federation, and Bill Christensen, Regional Director, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, also spoke in support of the bill.



     MOTION: Sen. Dayton moved to pass S.B. 161, Hunting License Amendments, out favorably.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis and Sen. Stowell absent at the time of     voting.


3. H.B. 53 Share Assessment Act (Rep. J. Gowans)

    Rep. James Gowans introduced the bill. Warren Peterson, Water Users Association, assisted in the presentation.

     MOTION: Sen. Christensen moved to pass H.B. 53, Share Assessment Act , out favorably.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis and Sen. Stowell absent at the time of voting.

4. H.B. 67 Age Amendments for Hunting Big Game (Rep. C. Oda)

    Rep. Curtis Oda introduced the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Dayton moved to replace H.B. 67 with 1st Substitute H.B. 67.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Davis and Sen. Stowell absent at the time of     voting.

    Jesse Sandstrom, citizen; Ernie Perkins, Wild Life and Habitat Coalition; and Jim Karpowitz, Director, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, spoke in support of the bill.

    Malin Foster, Editor, Salt Lake Tribune, spoke to the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Christensen moved to pass 1st Sub. H.B. 67, Age Amendments for Hunting Big Game, out favorably

    The motion passed unanimously.

5.    S. B. 59 Exemption from Fishing License (Sen. D. Stowell)

    Sen. Stowell introduced the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Stowell moved to replace S.B. 59 with 1st Sub. S.B. 59.


    The motion passed unanimously.

    Jim Karpowitz, Director, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, spoke in support of the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Davis moved pass 1st Sub. S.B. 59, Exemption from Fishing License, out favorably.

    The motion passed with Sen. Christensen, Sen. Davis, Sen. Peterson and Sen. Stowell voting in support of the bill and Sen. Dayton and Sen. Fife voting in opposition.

     MOTION: Sen. Christensen moved to adjourn

    The motion passed unanimously.

    Chair Peterson adjourned the meeting at 3:10 p.m.
