9 LONG TITLE
10 General Description:
11 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor urges that age
12 appropriate materials on the dangers of meth be distributed to students through the
13 state's education systems and that state government continue to partnership with the
14 business community, city and county governments, and various religious entities
15 regarding the dangers of meth.
16 Highlighted Provisions:
17 This resolution:
18 . strongly urges that all junior high, senior high, and post-secondary education
19 programs in the state provide timely and age appropriate materials on the dangers of
20 meth use and that these materials be made available to the business community, city
21 and county governments, and religious communities.
22 Special Clauses:

25 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
26 WHEREAS, the violence, suffering, and death resulting from use or exposure to meth
27 have destroyed many lives;
28 WHEREAS, the tragedy of meth use is heightened by its affect on youth;
29 WHEREAS, as with so many societal ills, the key to stopping meth use is prevention;
30 WHEREAS, age appropriate junior high, senior high, and post-secondary education
31 programs should be developed through the state's education systems to teach students the
32 dangers associated with meth use;
33 WHEREAS, the Governor's Meth Initiative Task Force should continue to build
34 partnerships with business, state, county, and city entities, as well as with religious
35 organizations in carrying out a very proactive campaign to educate the general public on the
36 dangers of meth use; and
37 WHEREAS, the future that our children enjoy will hinge, in part, on whether they are
38 armed with the knowledge, skill, and willpower to turn away from the dangers of using meth
39 and other harmful drugs:
40 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
41 Governor concurring therein, strongly urge that all junior high, senior high, and post-secondary
42 education programs in the state provide timely and age appropriate materials on the dangers of
43 meth use, that these materials be made available to the business community, city and county
44 governments, and religious communities, and that state government continue to partnership
45 with these entities regarding the dangers of meth use.
46 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah State
47 Board of Education and the Utah State Board of Regents, the Utah School Boards Association,
48 and the Utah School Superintendents Association.
