9 This bill reduces legislators' daily pay by 10%.

25 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
26 Section 1. Section 36-2-3 is amended to read:
27 36-2-3. Salaries of members set by Legislature based on recommendations of
28 Legislative Compensation Commission.
29 (1) (a) Except as provided in [
30 members of the Legislature shall automatically be set beginning January 1st of each
31 odd-numbered year at the amount recommended by the Legislative Compensation Commission
32 in the preceding even-numbered year.
33 (b) This salary recommendation shall be based on either:
34 (i) a daily basis:
35 (A) for each calendar day for annual general sessions; and
36 (B) for each day a legislator attends veto-override and special sessions and other
37 authorized legislative meetings; or
38 (ii) an annualized salary.
39 (2) (a) The Legislature during an even-numbered annual general session or special
40 session in the year immediately preceding the effective date of any salary change may reject or
41 lower the salary recommendation, but may not increase the salary recommendation.
42 (b) If the Legislature does not act as provided in Subsection (2)(a), they have by law
43 accepted the Legislative Compensation Commission's recommendations.
44 (3) Notwithstanding Subsection (2), the salary for a member of the Legislature through
45 calendar year 2010 is $117 per day for each calendar day that the legislator attends:
46 (a) the annual general session;
47 (b) a veto-override session;
48 (c) a special session; or
49 (d) an authorized legislative meeting.
