Rep. Menlove called the meeting to order at 8:34 a.m.

MOTION:    Rep. Riesen moved to approve the minutes of the January 30, 2009+ meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Daw and Rep. Ray absent for the vote.


H.B. 42    Adoption Revisions (Rep. S. Allen)

Rep. Allen explained the bill, assisted by Larry Jenkins, Utah Adoption Council. A handout that summarized the changes to existing code was distributed to the committee.

Spoke to the bill:    Will Carlson, Equality Utah

MOTION:    Rep. Riesen moved to pass the bill with a favorable recommendation. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Ray absent for the vote.


H.B. 224    Health Care Provider Abusive Work Environment Prohibition Act (Rep. S. Sandstrom)

Rep. Sandstrom explained the bill. He was assisted by Denise Halvorson, who distributed a handout to committee members.

Spoke in favor of the bill:    Sharlene Watson, registered nurse (handout)

Laura Sorensen, R.N., C.E.N., distributed written testimony in support of the legislation.

MOTION:    Rep. Daw moved to refer the bill for interim study and asked that the committee chair ensure that the issue is discussed during interim meetings. The motion passed unanimously.


MOTION:    Rep. Beck moved to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously.

Rep. Menlove adjourned the meeting at 9:56 a.m.
