Sen. Buttars called the meeting to order at 8:10 a.m.

Approval of Minutes

     MOTION: Sen. Bell moved to approve minutes from February 23 and February 25, 2009 meetings.

    The motion passed unanimously with Sens. Hinkins and Robles absent for the vote.

1.    HB0144, Medical Language Interpreter Act (R. Chavez-Houck)

    Rep. Chavez-Houck introduced the bill.

    Ms. Hayden and Ms. Morales spoke for the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Christensen moved to pass H.B. 144, Medical Language Interpreter Act, out of committee with a favorable recommendation.

    The motion passed unanimously.

     MOTION: Sen. Robles moved to place H.B. 144, Medical Language Interpreter Act, on the consent calendar.


    The motion passed unanimously.

2.    HJR003, Joint Resolution Supporting Efforts to Increase and Improve Cancer Treatment, Screening, and Research Programs (S. Duckworth)

    Rep. Duckworth introduced the resolution.

     MOTION: Sen. Jones moved to pass H.J.R. 3, Joint Resolution Supporting Efforts to Increase and Improve Cancer Treatment, Screening, and Research Programs, out of committee with a favorable recommendation.

    The motion passed unanimously.

     MOTION: Sen. Robles moved to place H.J.R. 3, Joint Resolution Supporting Efforts to Increase and Improve Cancer Treatment, Screening, and Research Programs, on the consent calendar.

    The motion passed unanimously.

3.    HB0254, Health Professional Authority-Death Certificates (B. Last)

    Rep. Last introduced the bill.

     MOTION: Sen. Christensen moved to pass H.B. 254, Health Professional Authority- Death Certificates, out of committee with a favorable recommendation.

    The motion passed unanimously.

     MOTION: Sen. Jones moved to place H.B. 254, Health Professional Authority-Death Certificates, on the consent calendar.

4.    HJR005S01, Joint Resolution Supporting Needed Improvements in the Navajo Nation's Ability to Collect and Track Child Support Payments (C. Watkins)

    Rep. Watkins introduced the resolution.

    Mr. Adams spoke for the resolution.

     MOTION: Sen. Jones moved to pass 1st Sub. H.J.R. 5, Joint Resolution Supporting Needed Improvements in the Navajo Nation's Ability to Collect and Track Child Support Payments, out of committee with a favorable recommendation.


    The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Christensen absent for the vote.

     MOTION: Sen. Jones moved to place 1st Sub. H.J.R. 5, Joint Resolution Supporting Needed Improvements in the Navajo Nation's Ability to Collect and Track Child Support Payments, on the consent calendar.
