8 LONG TITLE
9 General Description:
10 This joint resolution of the Legislature strongly urges the Public Service Commission to
11 establish underground conduit and marking standards.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution:
14 . urges the Public Service Commission to review, in conjunction with utility
15 companies, methods of marking underground utilities; and
16 . urges that the review take into account currently existing products that can provide a
17 uniform system of marking underground utilities.

21 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
22 WHEREAS, hundreds of miles of utility lines in the state of Utah are buried
23 underground;
24 WHEREAS, each year, numerous projects require underground construction;
25 WHEREAS, neither state and local governments nor the Public Service Commission
26 have required a uniform system for marking underground utilities;
27 WHEREAS, each year, numerous incidents during construction result in damage to
28 underground utility lines; and
29 WHEREAS, these incidents result in millions of dollars in line repair H. [
30 commerce H. , personal injury, and death .H :
31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
32 strongly urges the Public Service Commission to review, in conjunction with utility companies,
33 methods of marking underground utilities.
34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature urges this review take into account
35 currently existing products that can provide a uniform system of marking underground utilities.
36 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Public
37 Service Commission, the Utah Association of Counties, and the League of Cities and Towns.
