8 LONG TITLE
9 General Description:
10 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizes the need to
11 protect and preserve the family unit and its rights, and urges like-minded governments
12 to join in the protection and preservation of the family.
13 Highlighted Provisions:
14 This resolution:
15 . recognizes the need to promote, protect, preserve, and promulgate the family as the
16 basic unit of society;
17 . recognizes that the sovereignty of the state of Utah is built upon the family unit;
18 . recognizes the need to defend the family and the rights of Utah citizens to have and
19 hold families as a sacred trust; and
20 . urges like-minded governments to forge a bond for the protection of families to
21 ensure their protection and safeguard their well-being.

25 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
26 WHEREAS, the family is the most basic unit of society;
27 WHEREAS, by and through the family, all other forms of social structure exist;

28 WHEREAS, the family is the source of all that is of benefit to humankind;
29 WHEREAS, the family encompasses the workmanship of the Creator and is the unit by
30 which humankind progresses;
31 WHEREAS, the family is the protector of the child, and through this role the sociality
32 of humankind is promoted and defined;
33 WHEREAS, harmony existing within the family promotes the well-being of the nation;
34 WHEREAS, a father, a mother, and a child comprise the natural elements of
35 humankind needed to promote the generations and insure the sanctity of humankind;
36 WHEREAS, the power, place, and honor of the family must be paramount in order for
37 society to flourish and succeed;
38 WHEREAS, the origin of the family predates the laws, time, elements, precepts, and
39 concepts of humankind;
40 WHEREAS, the family is the cornerstone of life upon which all else is built for the
41 goodness of humankind;
42 WHEREAS, by and through the family do all good things in society have their origin;
43 and
44 WHEREAS, it is necessary and proper for each nation and culture to protect the
45 sovereignty of the family for the well-being of each person in it and for the assurance of the
46 future of humankind:
47 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
48 Governor concurring therein, recognize the need to promote, protect, and promulgate the
49 family as the basic unit of society.
50 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize that the
51 sovereignty of the state of Utah is built upon the family unit.
52 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
53 need to defend the family and the rights of Utah citizens to have and hold families as a sacred
54 trust.
55 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor urge like-minded
56 governments to forge a bond for the protection of families to ensure their protection and
57 safeguard their well-being.
58 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the National

59 Conference of State Legislatures, the Council of State Governments, and to the United Nations
60 Commission for Social Development.
