8 General Description:
9 This bill requires a public school to notify students of early graduation requirements.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This bill:
12 . requires a public school to prepare a sample early graduation schedule to provide to
13 a seventh grade student and the student's parent or guardian; and
14 . requires a public school to notify a seventh grade student and the student's parent or
15 guardian of early graduation requirements and the centennial scholarship.

24 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
25 Section 1. Section 53A-15-102.1 is enacted to read:
26 53A-15-102.1. Early graduation course requirements -- Student and parent
27 notification of early graduation course requirements during seventh grade.
28 (1) A public school that provides educational instruction to a seventh grade student
29 shall:
30 (a) prepare a sample early graduation schedule, including course requirements, that a
31 student may complete to graduate from high school at, or before, the conclusion of the eleventh
32 grade;
33 (b) notify a student and the student's parent or guardian during the student's seventh
34 grade year:
35 (i) that the student may graduate early; and
36 (ii) of the centennial scholarship described in Section 53A-15-102 ; and
37 (c) provide each seventh grade student, and the student's parent or guardian, with a
38 sample early graduation schedule that the student may complete for the student to graduate at,
39 or before, the conclusion of the eleventh grade.
40 (2) A sample early graduation schedule may include:
41 (a) an emphasis on completing core curriculum requirements;
42 (b) a summer school course;
43 (c) an early morning or after school course;
44 (d) an online course;
45 (e) credit earned by a student's demonstrated proficiency in a subject;
46 (f) completion of a College Level Examination Program (CLEP) test;
47 (g) independent study;
48 (h) an open entry/open exit course; or
49 (i) a concurrent enrollment course.
