             8      General Description:
             9          This joint resolution of the Legislature designates February 6, 2011, as Ronald Reagan
             10      Day in the state of Utah.
             11      Highlighted Provisions:
             12          This resolution:
             13          .    designates February 6, 2011, as Ronald Reagan Day in the state of Utah and urges
             14      all citizens to participate in fitting observances of Ronald Reagan's birth.
             15      Special Clauses:
             16          None

             18      Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
             19          WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble background, worked
             20      throughout his life serving freedom and advancing the public good, having been employed as
             21      an entertainer, union leader corporate spokesman, Governor of California, and President of the
             22      United States;
             23          WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as the
             24      40th President of the United States of America;
             25          WHEREAS, in his second term as president, Ronald Reagan earned the confidence of
             26      60% of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of the 50 states in the presidential general
             27      election, which is unsurpassed in the history of American presidential elections;


             28          WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated President, he inherited a
             29      disillusioned nation shackled by rampant inflation and high unemployment;
             30          WHEREAS, during Ronald Reagan's presidency he worked in a bipartisan manner to
             31      enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to government, which led
             32      to unprecedented economic expansion and employment opportunities for millions of
             33      Americans;
             34          WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan's commitment to an active social policy agenda for the
             35      nation's children helped lower the nation's crime and drug use;
             36          WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan's commitment to the nation's armed forces contributed to
             37      the restoration of pride in America, the country's values and those cherished by the free world,
             38      and prepared America's armed forces to meet 21st Century challenges;
             39          WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan's vision of "peace through strength" led to the end of the
             40      Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for
             41      millions of people; and
             42          WHEREAS, February 6, 2011, will be the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth,
             43      and the seventh year since his passing:
             44          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
             45      designates February 6, 2011, as Ronald Reagan Day in the state of Utah and urges all citizens
             46      to participate in fitting observances of Ronald Reagan's birth.
             47          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Ronald
             48      Reagan Legacy Project.
