Chair H. Stephenson called the meeting to order at 2:22 P.M.
MOTION: Sen. J. Stevenson moved to approve the minutes of the January 24, 2011 meeting.
The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Hillyard absent for the vote.
1. S.J.R. 1 -- Joint Resolution on State Board of Education Authority
Sen. Buttars introduced and explained the resolution.
Ms. Schnell, Mr. Norton, Sen. Dayton, Ms. Eager, and Ms. Coleman, spoke in favor of the resolution.
Ms. Kennett and Ms. Roberts spoke in opposition of the resolution. Allison Nicholson, Committee Analyst, read written comments submitted by Ms. Roberts.
MOTION: Sen. Thatcher moved to pass S.J.R. 1 out of committee with a favorable recommendation.
The motion passed with Sens. H. Stephenson, J. Stevenson, and Thatcher voting in favor, and Sens. Hillyard and Morgan voting in opposition.
2. S.J.R. 9 -- Joint Resolution - Governance of Public and Higher Education
Sen. Reid introduced and explained the resolution.
Public Comment on Both Resolutions.
Mr. Reese and Dr. Shumway spoke to both resolutions.
Mr. Cannon and Ms. Ruzika spoke in favor of both resolutions.
MOTION: Sen. Hillyard moved to pass S.J.R. 9 out of committee with a favorable recommendation.
The motion passed with Sens. Hillyard, H. Stephenson, J. Stevenson and Thatcher voting in favor, and Sen. Morgan voting in opposition.
MOTION: Sen. Thatcher moved to adjourn.
The motion passed unanimously.
Chair H. Stephenson adjourned the meeting at 4:06 P.M.
