Committee Chair Van Tassell called the meeting to order at 2:13 p.m.
Approval of minutes.
MOTION: Sen. Adams moved to approve the minutes of the February 3, 2011 meeting.
The motion passed unanimously with Sens. Jenkins and Knudson absent for the vote.
1. S.B. 45 Wireless Telephone Use Restrictions for Minors in Vehicles (R. Romero)
Sen. Romero explained the bill.
The following amendment was distributed:
1. Page 1, Lines 18 through 20 :
18 . specifies a penalty for violating the wireless telephone prohibition;

19 .
provides that a violation of the wireless telephone prohibition is not a
reportable violation; and
. prohibits the Driver License Division from assessing points against a person's

MOTION: Sen. Adams moved to adopt the amendment.
The motion passed unanimously with Sens. Jenkins and Knudson absent for the vote.
Sen. Romero further clarified the bill, answered questions from the committee and distributed a handout.
Rolayne Fairclough, AAA, Utah; Ashley Bailey, Student, teen; Brianna Anderson, Student, teen and Janet Brooks, Child Advocacy Manager, Primary Children's Medical Center spoke in support of the bill.
MOTION: Sen. Mayne moved to transmit S.B. 45 with a favorable recommendation.
The motion passed with Sens. Van Tassell, Adams and Mayne voting in favor of the bill, Sen. Jenkins voting in opposition and Sen. Knudson absent for the vote.
A power point presentation " Utah's Blue Castle Nuclear Generating Station" was shared by
Aaron Tilton, CEO, Blue Castle Nuclear Project and Jerry Olds, Manager, Olds Engineering, Blue Castle Nuclear Project, who answered questions from the committee and distributed
a handout.
MOTION: Sen. Knudson moved to adjourn.
The motion passed unanimously with Sen. Jenkins absent for the vote.
Chair Van Tassell adjourned the meeting at 3:11 p.m.
